Hurricane Isaias: Latest updates on Port of Mobile operations

MOBILE, Ala. — The Alabama Port Authority is monitoring Hurricane Isaias and preparing its facilities for potential impacts, working in close coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard, terminal partners and state emergency management officials.

Current status

The U.S. Coast Guard has established Port Condition YANKEE for the Port of Mobile, indicating gale-force winds are expected within 24 hours. Vessel traffic restrictions are now in effect, and vessels may enter the port only with Coast Guard permission. Vessels seeking to depart must arrange immediate departure.

Operational impacts

To allow vessels to depart in a safe and orderly fashion, the Alabama Port Authority will suspend vessel operations at its public berths at noon CDT today, Thursday, October 8. Terminal operations are scheduled to be suspended at the close of business today.

These times may change as forecasts and conditions continue to develop.

Ongoing preparations

The Alabama Port Authority is wrapping up ongoing activity at its terminals and securing its facilities ahead of the storm. These steps are intended to protect personnel, cargo and equipment, and to give employees time to prepare their own homes and families.
